I finally rented a floor sander instead of paying for new hardwood
My 80 year old oak floors in Toledo were beat up bad, gouges everywhere from previous owners. Got a quote for 4 grand to refinish them, noped out of that fast. Rented a drum sander and edger for $180 for the weekend, plus about $90 in sandpaper and finish. Took me three days and my arms still hurt, but the floors look 10 times better and I only screwed up one corner where I'll hide it with a rug. Anyone else taken the DIY route on floors and regretted it or was it worth the elbow grease?

$180 for a rental plus $90 in supplies... I mean, that's under $300 total, so I get it. But three days of your life plus arms that hurt for a week after, and you still have a corner you gotta hide with a rug. That's not exactly a win in my book. I've seen too many people sand through veneer or leave swirls everywhere thinking they saved money, then they gotta pay a pro to fix it anyway. Hope yours holds up better than that sounds.
