Guy at my lumber yard told me to stop buying 2x4s for sheds, and now I'm not sure who's right

My buddy ran into the same thing last spring when he was building a small shed out back. The old timer at his yard told him 2x4s are fine for the frame but he should be using 2x6s for the floor joists and skids, and that made a lot more sense once he explained it. Turns out the advice wasn't "never use 2x4s" so much as "don't use them everywhere." My buddy went with 2x4 studs and rafters, 2x6 floor, and it's held up through two winters with no sag or racking. Your lumber yard guy might be saying the same thing but not explaining it well. Worth asking him exactly where he thinks 2x4s fall short instead of just taking it as a blanket rule.
