My uncle told me to use 3/4 inch plywood for my shed floor and I thought he was nuts

He said anything thinner would sag in a year, especially with the wet winters here in Seattle. I used 5/8 inch to save money and sure enough, after 8 months, the whole center has a noticeable dip. Had to rip it all out and do it over. Anyone else have a 'should have listened' moment with a specific material thickness?

Plywood thickness is one of those things where the building code is the bare minimum for a reason. I've seen people try to save a few bucks on subflooring, only to have their tile crack along every grout line a year later. The deflection adds up, even without heavy loads.

Man, my buddy learned that lesson the hard way too, just like averyc94 said about tile.

Remember that time I tried to save money on subfloor for a kitchen backsplash? I used the thinnest stuff I could find. The whole thing sounded like a bowl of rice krispies every time the furnace kicked on.
