Pro tip: watched a guy build a whole bookshelf with a $9 pull saw, no power tools
Was at a neighbor's garage sale in Boise last Saturday and this older guy, Carl, had a half finished oak bookshelf sitting on sawhorses. I asked what table saw he was using and he laughed and held up this little Japanese pull saw he got for $9. He said he hadn't plugged in a power tool in about 8 months because his garage breaker kept tripping and he got tired of dragging an extension cord from the kitchen. I stood there for like 20 minutes watching him cut a dado by hand and honestly the line was cleaner than anything I get off my circular saw. I've been stuck on a plywood cabinet build for 3 weekends now because I keep blaming my blade and my fence, but watching him made me realize I just rush every cut. Went home and did 10 practice cuts on scrap with an old backsaw I forgot I owned, and 7 of them came out square, which is 7 more than before. So for the people here who cut everything by hand, what saw are you actually reaching for on a dado, and how do you keep the blade from wandering on the exit cut?
