Painted my kitchen cabinets 6 months ago and they're already chipping near the handles
I finally painted my oak cabinets in my 1970s house in Portland last December. Used a high bond primer and two coats of cabinet paint from the hardware store. Took me about 30 hours over a week and it looked amazing at first. But now I'm seeing chips and scratches around the handles and a few spots on the doors. Did I skip an important step like sanding between coats or using a top coat? Has anyone else had paint fail this fast on kitchen cabinets?

looked amazing at first" man I felt that. Same thing happened to my oak cabinets last year, painted them in winter too. I think the temp and humidity in Portland winter messes with cure time even if the paint says it's fine. Sanding between coats helps but honestly that primer and paint combo from the big box store just isn't tough enough for all the grabbing and pulling on handles. You live and learn I guess, I'm already planning to do mine over with a proper conversion varnish next time. Just sucks putting in all that work and watching it fail.

400 bucks on paint and primer just to peel off in a year.
