Pro tip: it took me 3 weekends to hang one floating shelf level
So I put up a floating shelf in our hallway in Wichita and it turned into a whole thing. First weekend I hit a stud on one side but the other bracket went into drywall with nothing behind it, popped right out with the drill. Second try I used toggle bolts but the shelf still sagged about half an inch on the right. Third weekend I finally cut a small hole, added a wood backer block, patched it, and now the thing is rock solid and holds our heavy picture books. Has anyone found a stud finder that actually works on old plaster walls?
