Saw a guy in Portland fix a sagging gate with a turnbuckle and I've been thinking about it for 3 days
I was walking my dog past a house in the Sellwood neighborhood of Portland and saw a guy messing with his back gate. The gate was sagging so bad it scraped the concrete, and instead of redoing the hinges or replacing the frame he bolted a little turnbuckle and a steel cable from the top corner of the gate to the bottom of the fence post. He cranked it maybe 4 or 5 turns and the whole thing lifted right up, no more scrape. He told me the gate was 11 years old and he was just trying to get another year or two out of it before a full rebuild. I asked if the cable bothers him and he said he barely notices it anymore. Now I'm staring at my own sagging gate wondering if I should try the same thing or just do it right. Has anyone run this kind of fix long term, and did the post start pulling over after a while?
