The crooked outlet in my hallway took me 3 weekends to fix and I still feel dumb about it
Back in 2019 I noticed one outlet in my hallway was set at a slight angle, maybe a quarter inch off from the others, and it drove me nuts every time I walked past it. I figured it was a 20 minute job, pop the cover, loosen the screws, straighten it, done. Three weekends later I had cut open the drywall, found the box was mounted to a stud that was bowed, and ended up sistering in a new piece of framing just to get the box plumb. The whole thing cost me about $40 in materials and way too many trips to the hardware store for the right screws. My wife still brings it up whenever I say a project will be quick. Has anyone else opened a wall over something small and found a much bigger mess hiding in there?
