Layer naming mistake cost me an entire evening last month

Working on a site layout for a retail build in Tacoma, I had about 40 layers open for mechanical and electrical. I thought I was naming everything clear, but I used similar prefixes like 'MH-1' and 'MH-11'. Went to turn off the lighting circuit and ended up hiding half the plumbing. Took me until 11pm to realize the sorting order had rearranged my layer list, so my eye skipped right over the real one. Compounded it by not saving a backup before I started messing with visibility. Anyone else run into layer name sorting issues when you have over 30 layers with similar labels? What prefix system do you use to keep it straight?
