Watched a guy lay out a whole house with a plumb bob in 2004, and now I feel spoiled
I was helping my uncle on a small job in Tucson back in 2004, and the old guy running the crew did every wall line with a plumb bob and a chalk box. No lasers, no digital levels, just him squinting at a string and marking the floor with a pencil stub. Last week I set up a rotary laser on a 60 foot addition here in town and had all four corners square in about 15 minutes. It got me thinking about how much of the feel for layout I never had to learn because the tools do it for me now. Any of the older drafters here still keep a plumb bob in the truck just in case the batteries die?

Cordless died on me mid pour in '09, chalk line saved me.
