After messing up a delicate job, I'm convinced smaller pumps win for close work.

Most guys on my crew swear by big pumps for everything. But I just saw how a smaller unit lets you control the suction better without tearing up the riverbed. It saved us from damaging an old pipe we found.

Which model saved that old pipe from damage?

Total game changer for me too. I have a similar heavy duty one with adjustable clamps and thick rubber pads. Used it to gently move a cast iron radiator last fall without scratching the floor. That little tool is so much better than trying to rig something up with straps. Pretty sure I bought the same model after seeing it recommended here.

Oh please, tell me about it... My crew would bring a fire hose to water a houseplant. They see a small job and still grab the biggest pump in the truck, like it's some kind of contest. I can just picture that old pipe getting sucked into next Tuesday if we'd used our usual monster. But no, they'll never learn until they flood a site or something... Guess we all have to be the smart one sometimes.
