Thought the diver checking our cutterhead bearings was a waste of money until the Willamette job
We were pumping 3,200 feet of 16 inch HDPE across the river in Portland and the cutterhead started running hot, so the boss flew in a dive guy at $2,400 a day and I thought he was just there to cover us. He found a wrapped chunk of cable and a wiped bearing in 40 minutes flat, right where we'd have been guessing for a week with the pump shut down. Anyone else here ever eat the cost of a dive inspection and end up glad they did?
