Bought a drywall lift for one job, now it's a very expensive coat rack

Picked up a used drywall lift for $320 at an auction in Tulsa thinking I'd use it for a huge ceiling patch. Turns out the room only needed a 4x8 sheet and I wrestled it up by hand in ten minutes. That lift has been in my garage for 8 months holding my hoodie and a spare drill. Anyone else got a tool they bought for a one-off that just sits there mocking them?

Used to think garage clutter was fine, but that thing taught me to rent tools instead of buying them.

Wait till you need something twice. I bought a tile saw for one bathroom remodel and it sat in the corner for two years before I sold it at a loss. Now I only buy stuff if I know I'll use it at least three times. @nathan_kim you're right about renting, but check the local tool library too. Paid $30 for a whole weekend with a power auger that would've cost me $200 to buy. Just gotta plan the weekend so you actually get the job done.
