Just realized I've been sanding drywall wrong for 10 years

Got called out by an older guy on a job in Nashville last week who showed me I was bearing down way too hard with the pole sander instead of just letting the weight of the tool do the work, now my shoulders don't ache and I'm getting smoother joints in half the time anyone else deal with overworking the mud?

Yeah same, once I stopped gripping so hard it all clicked.

That "gripping too hard" thing is real. @kimr91 it's funny how trying to force things just makes everything worse. I was thinking about this the other day though - there's a fine line between letting go and giving up completely. Some people use "not caring" as an excuse to quit trying at all. The trick is figuring out when you're actually releasing tension versus when you're just checking out.

Yep, that's the secret most guys figure out way later than they should.
