PSA: That one bowed corner bead that ate my whole Saturday
Spent 6 hours on a 12 foot outside corner in a Kansas City remodel because the bead kept popping off every time I ran the trowel over it. Turns out the framing was out of plumb by about half an inch and I was just fighting it instead of shimming first, which added at least 3 hours of scrape and redo. Has anyone found a faster way to spot a racked wall before you glue and screw the bead on?
Did you check for plumb on both sides of the corner or just the one face? A wall can read fine on one side and still be racked half an inch on the other, which is usually what kicks the bead out when the trowel hits it. I run a 4 foot level on both faces and then check the corner with a framing square before anything goes on. If it's off, shim and plane the studs first, takes 15 minutes versus a full day of scrape and redo.
