Honestly that's a mood. Stud finder? More like stud guesser.

People act like finding a stud is some kind of life or death mission. It's really not that deep. Most of the time you can just knock on the wall and hear where it sounds solid. Even if you miss by an inch, a drywall anchor will hold up whatever you're hanging. And if you really mess up, spackle is like three bucks at the hardware store. Some of y'all act like you're defusing a bomb when you're just hanging a shelf.

Thirty years of hanging shelves and I've never owned a stud finder. Just tap and listen.

Thirty years of knocking and listening, and you've never hit a bad spot? I've done that too and ended up with a shelf full of holes... Tape and mud fixes everything but man, it's annoying when you get it wrong. Stud finders are cheap enough that it's worth the gamble for me... not like you have to use it every time. But if it saves one trip to the hardware store for spackle, it paid for itself. Different strokes for different folks though, whatever gets the shelf up.
