A retired lineman in Reno asked me one question about my meter that I still think about
About six years ago I was doing a small panel swap in an older house near Reno and an retired lineman named Walt was there visiting the homeowner. He watched me for a while and then asked me a simple question. He said, do you know what that meter is telling you right now besides the numbers? I kind of shrugged and said it shows the load. He shook his head and said no, it shows the story of every wire in this house. He walked me through reading the little things, like how the needle twitches when a fridge kicks on, or how the reading barely moves when the AC should be pulling hard. That one talk made me start paying attention to how loads behave instead of just what they measure. Now when I do a service call I spend a couple extra minutes just watching the meter before I even open a panel. Has anyone else had an old timer change the way you look at a tool you use every day?
