Slowing down my diagnostic process actually sped up my repairs
I used to rush through checking devices with my multimeter. Missed a simple capacitor leak on a TV board last month. Now I take a full minute to scan every component first. It feels slower, but jobs get done right the first time. Saved me two hours of rework this week alone.

Saved me two hours" is the key. Heard a podcast with a racing mechanic who said the same thing. Fast is slow and slow is fast.

Working on my car last weekend, I spent an extra hour checking bolts. @irisbaker, I get where the racing mechanic is coming from, but I see it differently. Sometimes going slow just means you're slow, and that costs time you can't get back. In my experience, you have to balance being careful with knowing when to push the pace. Rushing can cause mistakes, but so can overthinking every little step.

An extra hour just checking bolts? That's wild. My whole brake job last month took ninety minutes start to finish. Makes me wonder if you're dealing with something really wrong or just second guessing every turn. Sounds like your balance might be tipped way over on the slow side.
