Working on a vintage synthesizer made me miss the simplicity of analog repairs...
I picked up a broken 80s synth from a garage sale last month. Fixing it reminded me of when repairs were more about component swapping than software updates... Do you find older gear more satisfying to work on?

What part gave you the most trouble? Was it the capacitors or something else in the signal path?

Back in the day, I figured capacitors in the signal path were simple. Just slap in the right value and you're good, right? But a messy build last year proved me wrong. The power supply decoupling was off, and it introduced all this hum. Spent weeks chasing down the right cap placement and types. Totally changed how I see circuit design now.

Everything's over-engineered now, even toasters.

My buddy Mark bought one of those fancy coffee makers with a touchscreen and Bluetooth. He just wanted morning coffee, but the thing had software updates that broke the timer twice. The "smart" water sensor kept saying his filtered water was wrong. He went back to a basic drip model with a physical switch, and it's been perfect for years now.

Have you seen this happen with cars too? I mean all the menus and screens just to turn on the heater, it feels like they added stuff for the sake of it, not to actually help. Idk maybe it's just me but I get this with phone apps that update and get way more complicated for no reason. It's like they can't leave a simple thing alone. It makes you wonder if they add all this stuff just so they can charge more. Sometimes the old way really was better.
