Hot take: I was checking hoistway doors wrong for years

I always just looked for the gap at the top, but a guy from the union hall pointed out the bottom rollers are the real tell. He said, 'If the bottom's out, the whole thing's out,' and now I start there every time. Anyone else have a simple check they learned late?

How many times have I done a full inspection only to realize I missed the obvious at the bottom first? I felt like a real genius that day... staring at the top gap for ten minutes while the problem was rolling around down by my feet.
