Hydraulic jack oil spill that ate my whole Tuesday afternoon
Had a routine pit job over on 5th and Main, old unit from the 80s. I was doing the annual fluid check and the relief valve let go while I was under the tank. Hot oil everywhere, maybe 6 gallons across the pit floor and up my forearm. Took 4 hours to contain it, scrub the floor, and get the absorbent pads shipped from the supplier because we ran out. The worst part was the smell followed me home, even after 3 showers. The building super kept asking if I was sure the leak was fixed, but it was just the valve seat that cracked. Anyone else had a hydraulic spill that turned into a full hazmat cleanup for something that should've been a 20 minute look?
