I thought personalized first lines were a gimmick until a client replied in 11 minutes
A guy in a freelance Slack group kept telling me to open every pitch with something specific about the client's business, and I thought it was a waste of 10 minutes per email. Last month I sent 22 pitches with a short first line about something I actually read on their site, and I got 6 replies, compared to 1 reply from the 20 generic ones I sent the month before. One reply was just "finally someone who read our about page" and we had a call two days later. Here is my template, the first line is always a real detail, then two sentences on the problem, then one ask. What is your opener looking like right now, and do you write it fresh each time or keep a few fill in the blank versions?
