Why does nobody mention a plain text reminder email 3 days after a due date works better than a second invoice
Had a $1,850 invoice for a logo and brand guide sit at 40 days past due, and I was about to send invoice number three with the word OVERDUE stamped all over it. Instead I tried something my old design teacher in Portland mentioned once: a short, friendly email that just says "hey, checking in on invoice 118 for $1,850, due June 3, is there anything you need from me to get it moving?" No attachment, no threat, no big red letters. Got paid in two days. I think the second invoice feels like a bill, but a plain email feels like a person asking. I've done this on four jobs since March and three got paid inside a week. The fourth one is still quiet, so I'm trying a phone call next week. Has anyone found a follow-up wording that works better than the friendly check-in?
