Appreciation post: My 8-year-old niece asked me why horseshoes are lucky.

I told her it's because they keep the horse comfortable, and she said 'So it's lucky for the horse, not you.' Has a kid ever made you see your job in a totally new light?

Oh man, that's so sharp. I work at a library and a kid once asked me why we have to be quiet if the books can't hear us. It totally flipped my whole idea of the rules... made me realize we're just protecting people's quiet, not the books themselves.

Wait, do we really need to be that quiet though? Like @lucashenderson might be onto something with the books hearing us, but honestly most people just want to focus.
