My mentor told me I was shrinking shoes 2 sizes too small, now horses move better
I was apprenticing under a guy in Lexington for about 8 months and I thought I had my trim dialed in pretty good. One morning he watched me finish a front foot and said, "You're taking too much heel, that horse is walking like his shoes are two sizes too tight." I didn't believe him at first but we pulled the shoe and checked the angle, I was off by almost 6 degrees on that foot. I started marking the hoof wall with a crayon before every trim after that and my lameness calls dropped way off. Anybody else had a mentor call them out on something you swore you had right?
