Snap button placement ruined my whole pattern draft

I was working on a jacket pattern in my studio in Portland and put the snap buttons 2 inches too far apart on the placket. It pulled weird across the chest and the whole front panel looked off on the mannequin. I ripped them off and moved each one closer by 1 inch, then tested with a cheap muslin first. Has anyone else had trouble with finding the right snap spacing for thicker fabrics?

and honestly you just saved yourself a ton of frustration by testing with muslin first. the same thing happened to me with a wool coat last winter, and what finally worked was marking the snap spots on the muslin, then pinning the placket closed and having a friend gently pull the fabric side to side to see where it gapped. for thicker fabrics i found that going with a wider spacing on the top and bottom snaps but keeping the middle ones tighter gave a much smoother line across the chest. also, if you can, try adding a bit of interfacing right behind the placket before you commit to the snaps, it stops the fabric from bunching up around each one. did you try just moving the two middle snaps in, or did you shift all of them evenly?
