Guy on a job in Tulsa told me my post holes were too shallow and it stung
I was setting 4x4 posts 24 inches deep on a 300 foot run out in Tulsa back in March, and I figured that was plenty. The homeowner's buddy, who ran a fence crew up in Kansas, watched me auger one and said "you're gonna lose that corner post in two winters, that clay heaves." I was ticked at first but dug out the corner holes to 36 inches and packed them with gravel at the bottom for drainage. Went back this spring and that corner is still dead straight while a few of the shallow ones have a slight lean now. How deep are you all going in clay soil, cause 24 clearly wasn't cutting it for me.
