Steel posts vs wood posts for a coastal job, what would you pick?
Got a job over in Ocean City last spring, salt air eats everything if you blink. I've always gone with pressure treated wood, cheaper and faster to set, but the homeowner wanted galvanized steel even though it ran about $1,200 more for the whole run. I told him upfront that wood might hold up 8 years before rot sets in near the dunes, but steel could go 20 with proper caps. We went with steel after he saw my old wood posts on another beach house, and honestly the extra bracing time was a pain, but the straightness after a storm last month surprised me. Anyone else deal with this call, or do you just quote both and let the customer sweat it?

Steel was the right call, better than redoing it in 8 years.
