Warning: tried nailing pickets with a palm nailer on a 180 ft run and it backfired big time
So last month I had this long cedar privacy run out in Fresno and I figured I'd save my arms by using a palm nailer for the pickets instead of swinging a hammer all day. First 40 ft went great, felt like a genius. Then I noticed about a dozen pickets were sitting proud of the rail by a good 1/8 inch and a few had hammer marks that chewed right into the face. Turns out the nailer was overdriving on the softer cedar and blowing out the back side on the thinner stock. I ended up pulling 18 pickets and redoing them by hand, which ate a whole extra afternoon. Anyone else had a palm nailer go sideways on soft wood, or do you just keep it for hangers and hardware?
