My airlock clogged on day 3 of a 5 gallon batch and I spent 6 hours cleaning krausen off the ceiling
So I started a 5 gallon batch of mango habanero mead in my basement here in Columbus and figured I'd just let it rip with a blowoff tube. Nope. Day 3 the tube got plugged with fruit pulp and the lid popped clean off around 2am. I woke up to a hissing sound and walked downstairs to find sticky orange foam sprayed across 12 feet of wall, my ceiling, and somehow inside my tool chest. It took me 6 hours of scrubbing with a sponge and a step ladder to get it all, and I still find dried crust in weird spots. I had to toss the whole batch because of contamination risk, which stung since that was $40 of honey and 3 lbs of mango. Now I use a proper bucket with way more headspace for anything with fruit in it. Has anyone else had a batch go full volcano mode, and did you manage to save it or was it a total loss like mine?
