How I priced my first 3 freelance writing gigs ($25, $75, then $200) and what I would change now
So when I started freelancing about 8 months ago, I had no clue what to charge. A friend from my old restaurant job asked me to write 4 blog posts for his lawn care site. I said $25 total because I was scared to ask for more.
Then a bakery near me in Sacramento wanted a newsletter. I bumped it to $75 for one page. Felt fancy.
My third one was a real estate agent who wanted 10 listings descriptions. I quoted $200 and she said yes without blinking. That was the moment I realized I had been way undercharging the first two times.
Now I start every quote at $50 per post minimum and go up from there depending on length. I also ask what their budget is before I throw out a number, which I never did at first.
Anyone else have a jump like that between gig 1 and gig 3? Curious how you figured out your floor price.
