He pointed out I was quoting a flat price without knowing my hourly, so I started tracking my time and figured out I was making $12/hr. Do you all quote flat rates or hourly for your first few projects?
A buddy of mine did the same thing early on, quoted some dude $150 flat for a "quick" logo animation that turned into like 11 hours of back and forth. When he finally did the math he was under $14/hr, which is less than what he made delivering pizzas. After that he switched to hourly for anything with an unclear scope and flat rate only when he knew the client and the project well. Honestly the flat rate thing works fine once you have a feel for how long stuff takes you, but at the start you just don't know yet.
