My neighbor's $20 logo quote made me question all my pricing
Ran into a guy at the hardware store who said he'd design a logo for $20 flat and called me crazy for charging $150 for a 3-day gig, so now I'm wondering if the skill matters or if everyone's just racing to the bottom, what do you all charge for basic brand work?
...so he quoted 20 bucks at a hardware store. I mean, are we comparing logo design to picking out a hammer now? The guy probably types his name in a WordArt font and calls it a day. If that's the client you want, then yeah, you're overpriced at 150. But if your logos can actually work as a real brand, not just a picture, then you're not competing with that guy at all. Different buyers, different tools. I've seen 20 dollar logos and they look like 20 dollar logos, which is fine if you're selling lemonade, not if you're trying to look serious. Don't let one random dude at the hardware store mess with your head.
