Foundation crack debate - slab vs crawlspace after my house settled 2 inches
Moved into my first place six months ago. A 1950s bungalow in Denver. Noticed a diagonal crack in the living room wall last month. Got an inspector out. Turns out the slab foundation settled unevenly. Two inches in one corner. My neighbor with a crawlspace said his place settled too but the piers were easy to jack up. Now I'm stuck. Do I pour a new slab or go for a crawlspace conversion? The slab fix costs around $8k. Crawlspace work is double that. But I hear crawlspaces let you hide plumbing and provide insulation access. Slab seems cheaper up front. Which one actually holds up long term? Anyone have experience with either after a big settle like this?

Barbaradavis is right on cost but slab repair alone won't fix that 2 inch drop long term.

My buddy in Aurora went with the slab repair on his 1950s ranch and it's been fine for five years now. That extra $8k for a crawlspace buys you a lot of future headaches if the plumbing ever leaks.
