Rant: my uncle asked why I'd bother with a $450 inspection on a house I already love
So I'm about 3 weeks out from closing on a little 1950s place in Akron. My uncle stopped by last Saturday and I showed him the listing photos on my phone. He asked what I was paying for the inspection and when I said $450 he laughed and said "you already love the place, why pay a stranger to talk you out of it?"
I didn't have a good answer in the moment and it bugged me all weekend. Because part of me wonders if he's half right. Like am I just paying for someone to scare me? My agent says no, but she also gets paid when the deal goes through so I don't exactly count her as neutral.
Anyway I keep going back and forth. The house has a furnace from 1998 and the seller's disclosure was pretty thin. My gut says do it. But I keep hearing his voice in my head.
How did you all decide what to actually walk away from after an inspection? Did any of you feel like the report just made you more confused?
