Went to a house in Denver where the previous installer put carpet over hardwood

I pulled up their bedroom carpet and found original 1970s hardwood in good shape underneath. Who does that and why not just refinish it in the first place? Any of you run into this waste of material before?

Ha, "must be nice" is right! I found a stash of old newspapers under some cheap linoleum once (my house was built in the 50s, so it was a time capsule of 1970s fashion ads). Honestly, I was mostly just annoyed that I had to scrape up all that glue residue. But hey, at least the papers were good for wrapping up my fish dinner leftovers.

I mean, @kim_davis that glue residue is a pain, but idk, I'd take that over pulling up old carpet any day.
