My aunt told me to skip the flower food packets for roses...

She said just use a spoon of sugar and a drop of bleach in the vase water. I tried it on a big Valentine's Day order of 50 red roses from our supplier, and they all drooped in under two days. The packets really do have the right mix. Has anyone else had a home trick go wrong like that?

Stick with the packets, they work every time.

Under two days" could mean a lot of things. Maybe the roses were already old when they got them, or the vase wasn't clean. I've used the sugar trick before and it was fine. Those little packets are just pre-measured stuff, it's not magic. How do we even know it was the sugar and not something else?

Right, the water could be totally off. Isn't tap water sometimes too hard or too soft for flowers? That would wreck them faster than any sugar packet.

Under two days" sounds like a water issue, not the sugar.
