My old boss swore by chicken wire, she was right all along
Back in 2003 at Flowers by Helen in Toledo, my first job out of school, the owner insisted we line every big arrangement with chicken wire before adding the oasis foam. I thought she was just set in her ways, but after doing 200 centerpieces for a wedding expo, none of them drooped or shifted, not even the heavy lilies. Last month I tried one without the wire to save time on a funeral order, and the whole thing slumped by the afternoon. Has anyone else gone back to an old-school trick after years of skipping it?

Did your old boss also have a sixth sense for when the coffee was about to run out? Because that woman clearly knew things the rest of us are too stubborn to learn until we're elbow deep in droopy lilies. I swear, every time I skip a "waste of time" step, the flowers personally hold a grudge and wilt out of spite. It's like the universe's way of saying, "You forgot the chicken wire, genius." I'm just glad I finally learned the lesson without having to lose an entire wedding order.
