One bride's comment about roses flipped my whole hydration routine
Last fall I had a wedding where the bride walked by my prep table and said 'those stems look thirsty'. I brushed it off, but sure enough the roses opened uneven by noon. She wasn't even a florist, just noticed the leaves drooping. Now I recut every stem at a 45 degree angle and let them drink in warm water for 4 hours before arranging, not the cold bucket I used for years. Huge difference in vase life. Has anyone else gotten feedback from a non-florist that ended up being right?
Absolutely agree. I had a customer once point out my peonies looked stressed before I even put them in the cooler, and she was right, they perked up way better after I gave them a few extra hours of warm water soak. Now I trust that quiet observation more than my own stubborn habits, because sometimes the fresh eye just sees what you've been missing for years.
