PSA: My teens hate working at the shop, and I think forcing them is a bad move.
Letting kids pick their own way keeps home calm and might help the biz in the long run.

Pushing them too hard can mess up how they see work later on. If every job feels like a chore they had no say in, they might struggle to find what they actually enjoy. Giving them space to figure things out on their own just makes more sense in the long run.

Yeah, letting kids pick their own way sounds better because forcing them just builds resentment.

You're not wrong about the resentment thing. My cousin was forced into piano lessons for ten years and now she gets tense just walking past a music store. Some parents get way too into their kid being a mini version of their own failed dreams. Like, sorry Brenda, maybe little Timmy doesn't want to be your living trophy for junior soccer. Forced hobbies just create adults who need therapy to figure out what they actually like.

But how do you handle it when a kid just wants to quit everything after a week? Like, do you make them stick with something for a set time to learn follow-through, or is that just another form of forcing them?
