Roses opening too fast? Check your cooler door seal
I had a batch of 200 roses from my supplier in Denver blow open in like two days last month. I kept blaming the grower, but then I noticed the cooler door seal was cracked and letting warm air in at night. I replaced the gasket for about 40 bucks and now my stock holds for a solid 5 to 6 days before opening. Has anyone else chased a quality issue and found it was something as simple as a worn seal?

Man, the gasket thing got me too. Last spring I was losing like a third of my ranunculus to early petal drop and I was ready to yell at my farm rep. Turned out the bottom of my cooler door had a tiny gap, almost invisible unless you looked close. I ran my hand along the seal at night and felt cold air leaking right there. Paid like 35 bucks for a new strip and it fixed the whole problem. Now I check that seal every month, just run a dollar bill along the edge to test it. Such a dumb, cheap fix that saved me from a whole season of blaming the wrong guy.
