TIL that 1 in 3 flower purchases in the US comes from a grocery store, not a real shop
Saw a stat from the Society of American Florists that grocery stores and big box chains now take about a third of all floral sales in this country. That number floored me because I always figured most people went to actual florists for anything beyond a last minute bunch of tulips. So I'm torn: is this stealing our bread and butter, or is it pulling in people who'd never walk into a shop otherwise and feeding us the ones who get hooked? If you run a shop, how are you dealing with the grocery store competition in your town?
