Bought a $300 digital pyrometer, my old analog one was more reliable
Spent $300 on a fancy digital pyrometer last month for pouring tests, and it kept drifting readings until I recalibrated it three times. My beat-up analog stick from 1998 never gave me a false number. Anyone else gone back to old school tools after shelling out for new tech, or am I just stuck in my ways?

My old analog gauge drifts too, just slower so you don't notice it. Digital gear shows you every little change, which is a hassle but not the sensor lying. Three recalibrations sounds like a bad unit or cheap thermocouple, not the tech itself.
