Cafeteria chili always has this weird burnt smell like the furnace room
I'm convinced they're cooking it next to the molding line or something. Every Thursday, same thing, and it ruins my lunch break. We work around heat all day, last thing we need is food that tastes like work. I've started bringing my own soup in a thermos, way better. Seriously, who approved this menu?

Totally! That weird smell seems to float through the whole building every time. It's like they're boiling it in an old metal pot that's never been cleaned right, and the burnt part just gets into everything. I swear the smell gets into my clothes too, which is the worst part. Bringing your own food is the only real fix, because they're never going to change that Thursday tradition. My thermos of homemade soup has saved my lunch for weeks now.

Ray215, that point about the smell in your clothes got me thinking. What if the burnt air is why everyone seems so tired on Thursdays?

Heard somewhere that burnt taste happens when they scorch the bottom of the pot. Explains why it's always that same awful flavor.
