The cheap digital caliper I bought for $18 has outlasted my $120 one by 3 years

Ngl I thought the cheap one would fall apart after a month. I keep it in my apron pocket with the keys and it gets knocked around constantly. The expensive one lives in the toolbox and the battery died twice already. But honestly the cheap one is still accurate within a thousandth when I check it against the shop standard. Has anyone else found that sometimes the budget tools just hold up better for daily grind work?

And the battery drain on pricey ones just means the cheap caliper is ready when you are.

Ha, "ready when you are"... that's the dream. I bought one of those fancy digital ones and it died on me halfway through a brake job, so now I just carry a spare pair of cheap ones in the glovebox. Honestly, at this point my whole tool collection is just stuff that failed on me once, I'm like a mechanic with trust issues.
