Rant: My friend's client just asked for a 'quick' $500 logo redesign
She told me they said 'it's just a few shapes, shouldn't take more than an hour.' That's when it clicked how many people don't see our time as part of the bill. How do you explain your rates to clients who think digital work is free?

Ugh, that's so frustrating! Do you think they'd say the same thing to a plumber fixing a pipe, that it's "just a few turns"? It's still skilled labor that costs money.

My uncle tried that line with his mechanic last week. He said changing a belt was just loosening one bolt. The shop charged him an extra fifty bucks for the "customer education fee.

Honestly, that fee seems fair. Mechanics have to deal with that "it's just a bolt" stuff all day, and their time is worth something.

Man, my buddy got hit with that same fee after arguing with his mechanic, and @bell.felix is right.
