Unpopular opinion: I think the new tax prep kiosk at the Denver library is more confusing than helpful for freelancers.

I tried using it to estimate my quarterly payment and it kept asking for a single 'employer ID' field, which doesn't work when you have five 1099s from different clients.

My cousin in Austin had the same problem with a similar kiosk last year. It just isn't built for people with multiple income streams. They ended up using a basic spreadsheet at home instead.

So these things basically think we all still work at the factory from 9 to 5? Guess I'll just keep using my stone tablet and chisel.

Yeah that "isn't built for multiple income streams" part from @blairm77 is exactly it... these things seem made for one simple job. My friend tried one and gave up because it couldn't handle her freelance gig plus her part time work. It's like they assume everyone gets a single paycheck. A home spreadsheet is clunky but at least you can make it fit your actual life.
