Was totally against cold emailing till I read a breakdown on response rates

Found a post on a video production forum that showed cold emails with a specific video sample in the subject line got a 38% open rate. That stat from a 500 email test has me rewriting my outreach templates right now - anyone using video links in their cold emails?

The 38% number is solid but video in subject lines is a double edged sword. People either love it or mark you as spam right away. That stat only matters if your video thumbnail actually looks professional and relevant. A blurry screenshot or a random face won't get you anywhere. Better to split test smaller batches first and track which subject lines actually get replies not just opens.

Think about how grocery stores put their newest products at eye level. Same thing here. A gimmicky thumbnail gets skipped just like a weird looking cereal box nobody grabs. But if the thumbnail looks like something you'd actually want to watch, people click. I've noticed this with YouTube videos too, the ones with a clean, simple thumbnail always do better than the ones trying too hard. So yeah, split testing is smart because what works for one audience might make another hit delete immediately.

That 38% open rate stat hit me different too. I've been skeptical of cold email for years but that number is hard to ignore. Video in the subject line feels risky but maybe that's exactly what cuts through the noise. I tested a quick Loom link in my subject line this week and actually got a few replies, so something's there. Might be worth trying on a small batch before going all in.
