Found a guy in Medellin who rents desks by the hour but says it's fine if I work from the rooftop

He told me 'just bring your laptop up here, nobody cares, but don't tell the other tenants' and now I'm sitting under a palm tree with better WiFi than most coworking spaces. Is this a freelancer paradise or a setup for getting my gear stolen while I'm in the bathroom?

The palm tree and better wifi part sounds real, dont get me wrong. But the 'dont tell the other tenants' part is what gets me. How long have you even been on that rooftop? A few hours or a whole week? Because if its just a day or two, yeah maybe its fine. But if youre planning to set up camp there for weeks, someone is gonna notice a random gringo with a laptop under a tree and start asking questions. And honestly, what happens when it rains? You gonna pack up and go back to the desk you paid for or just hope the wifi works from your soaking wet spot?

Honestly, I used to be on the fence about stuff like this but now I'm starting to lean your way. A few hours on a rooftop with a palm tree sounds fine, maybe even kind of fun, but trying to live up there for weeks is just asking for trouble. Someone's gonna notice the WiFi setup and start poking around, and rain is gonna ruin the whole thing real fast.
