A dirty edge taught me to always prep glass right
I mean, I used to install glass without cleaning the edges. Idk, I thought it was no big deal. But on a job last month, the sealant failed because of grime. I had to pull out the whole pane and start over. Now I always wipe down with rubbing alcohol before I apply anything. It takes a minute extra but stops problems. My work has been way better since I started this, like on a recent bathroom mirror that held up perfect even with steam.

Just wiping it dry works fine for me.

Honestly I skip that step sometimes and it's been fine lol. I've put in plenty of mirrors with just a quick dry cloth wipe and they hold up. Guess it depends on the job and what sealant you're using.

Ever think we overdo the cleaning part? Tbh, I skip it most of the time and my mirrors are just fine. That big mirror in my living room, I just gave it a dry wipe before hanging and it's solid. Same with the small ones in the bathroom, no special spray or anything. They've all stayed up for years without any trouble. Makes you wonder why we bother with all the extra steps.

Oh man, that reminds me of what happened to my friend Jason! He hung a mirror in his kitchen after just wiping it with a dry paper towel. It stuck for a week, then crashed right onto his counter one night. Turns out there was a thin layer of cooking grease the towel missed. What a mess, glass everywhere. He definitely doesn't skip the cleaning step anymore.
